Decoding the Upwork market through scraped data related Python jobs
I recently scraped around 12100+ jobs posted on Upwork related to Python. Sharing some insightful information.
Using the Upwork’s RSS feed I was scraping and collecting the jobs related to Python. After collecting around 12k jobs and accumulating a wealth of information from the vast dataset at my disposal. Here's what I discovered:
1. Peak Posting Times and Days:
Through meticulous analysis, I uncovered that the bulk of job postings occur on weekdays, with Tuesday leading the pack time being in UTC. There's a noticeable surge in activity during afternoon hours This insight is invaluable for freelancers aiming to catch the latest opportunities.
Global Participation:
Diving into the geographical aspect, the dataset revealed a diverse range of countries participating in the Upwork marketplace. The United States emerged as the frontrunner with the most job postings, followed by the United Kingdom and Canada. This reflects the global nature of the freelance market, offering opportunities without borders.
The top 10 countries with the most job postings in our dataset are as follows:
United States: 5,414 postings
United Kingdom: 1,264 postings
Canada: 664 postings
Australia: 634 postings
India: 468 postings
Pakistan: 400 postings
Germany: 281 postings
France: 200 postings
Netherlands: 192 postings
United Arab Emirates: 153 postings
3. The Fixed Price Dynamic:
I really wanted to check how much are client proposing to spend on the job post so I filtered only the fixed contracts and it’s rough amount significant portion of jobs on Upwork are fixed-price contracts. The United States again leads in terms of the total fixed price amounts, indicating a robust market for project-based work. Countries like the United Kingdom also show substantial engagement in this model. I w
